Lit Flicks Challenge Meme

As part of the Lit Flicks Challenge, a meme has been posted and I thought I’d share my answers with  you.  Feel free to share your own answers!

1. Are you more likely to see a movie if it’s based on a book?

It really depends on whether or not the book is something I’ve ever heard of or read.  If I really enjoyed the book then I have a hard time liking the movie even though it’s a different medium.

2. Do you prefer to read the book first or see the movie first?

I definitely prefer to read the book first.  There have been some great adaptations but I’d prefer to imagine how characters look in my head to seeing the actors from the movie.  In the case of The Accidental Tourist it didn’t matter.  I saw the movie first (it was one of the first times I’d seen a Cardigan Welsh Corgi) but liked both the movie and the book.  The casting was well done and there were some characters I was able to imagine differently.

3. List one movie that was better than the book it’s based on, and one book that is better than the movie.

The movie, Princess Bride, is better than the book.  To be fair, I read the book when I was young and may not have quite gotten the humor in it.  One book that’s better than the movie would be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  I didn’t get the same excitement from the movie as I did the book.

 4. In your opinion, what film is the most accurate representation of the book?

The Accidental Tourist would be the most accurate representation.

  1. The Princess Bride is still one of my favorite movies of all time. I haven’t read the book personally but that may be something I do, to compare how the book moves with the movie. 🙂

  2. Amber, thanks for participating in this meme! I haven’t read The Princess Bride, but I really LOVE the movie. I haven’t read or seen The Accidental Tourist, but it sounds like I need to.

  3. I loved the book The Princess Bride. I grew up on the movie, and would not say one is better than the other … just different. In the movie, you have the grandfather “editing” the book for the son, but in the book, the “editing” is built in. It really amused me once I researched S. Morgenstern and William Goldman.
