You know what makes a successful author, right?  Perseverance.  That means writing, revising and sending out material.  This was not a month where I kept my writing appointments with myself.  I fell into the unfortunate habit of starting something and then waiting weeks to pick it up again.  Then I worked on it for 10 minutes before moving on to something else.

I did enter a poetry contest this month which is better than nothing.  Watch out, May!  You won’t recognize me.  🙂

  1. I hear you! I have months where I absolutely produce and others where I get caught up in family responsibilities or life’s many unexpected surprises and hardly sit at my computer long enough to jot down a Facebook update.

I do try to set specific goals for myself though. Once I have written down a goal and acknowledged it, the intention seems to gain a life of its own. Also, there’s something so satisfying about being able to check it off the list and feel that sense of accomplishment when you meet your own writing goals each month.

I admire you for posting about it and including both the good months and the slower ones. It’s inspiring.

  2. Goals are good. I sometimes forget to check in on them to see how I’m doing.

I first saw something similar to this on Jennifer Pelland’s LiveJournal and I thought her information was interesting. She’s had a lot more success (and experience) in writing for publication but it’s good to know that each stage it’s never easy. Even well-known authors who could get their grocery lists published have their own hurdles – we usually don’t hear about them. 🙂
