Show Me Your Words

This is the third post in my series on “How To Get Your Book Reviewed”.

If you’ve read the first two posts then you’ve managed to setup a site so a potential reviewer can learn more about you and/or  your book.  In a bookstore, potential buyers pick up the book, read a blurb on the cover and thumb through the pages.

Show Me Your Words

A reviewer can’t thumb through your book online.  Or can she?  Actually, with the right information it can be done!  This can also be invaluable for potential buyers.

Just as each author is an individual so is the manner in which the reader can see your writing.  You’ll want to check with your publisher on the ideas you wish to use just to make sure you don’t step on any toes.  Some ideas you don’t really want to use until your book is at the printers.  Here are a few suggestions:

  • Make the first chapter available for reading or download.
  • Post an excerpt of 50 or 100 words.
  • Post the “before” and “after” versions of an excerpt from a previous draft to the final version.  (Recommended only for the brave!)
  • Write about how you came to name your characters.
  • Write about the most enjoyable part of writing your book.
  • Let one of your characters interview you.

These are just a few ideas to show your potential readers and reviewers what to expect from your book and what to expect on a blog tour.
